ts [tsʰ]

North Slavey, Deline  -  Phoneme: ts [tsʰ]  -  IPA: Aspirated alveolar affricate.

Word: tatsó [txɑtsʰṍ] "crow"  -  Speaker: SP5

This is a good example of an aspirated affricate. In this sound ts, the apsiration appears at the end of the fricative part of the sound, as it transitions into the vowel. It is clearly visible in the waveform and spectrogram. Contrast this with the unaspirated affriacates dz and j. Also observe the compressin of the closure period of the affricate. It is partially voiced and is quite short.
