k [kx]

1 Word: kewá [kxewɑ́] "moccasins"  -  Speaker: SP5

This an example of a word initial velar affricate k [kx]. This has been described as an aspirated plain stop, but it is not an aspirated stop.  It has the profile of an affricate, its release is strongly fricated; this is an visible and audible property of this sound.


2 Word: deneke [tɛnekxɛ] "foot"  -  Speaker: SP5

Another example of the velar affricate k [kx], in stem initial position with its characteristic properties.
