Dagmar Herzog (CUNY) Reading Group: "Ethnopsychoanalysis in the Era of Decolonization"

April 26, 2017
02:30 PM - 04:00 PM
Humanities Center Conference Room D, 212 Rush Rhees Library, River Campus

University of Rochester faculty and graduate students are invited to join us for a reading group with Dagmar Herzog, Distinguished Professor of History and Daniel Rose Faculty Scholar at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, to discuss excerpts from her most recent book, Cold War Freud: Psychoanalysis in an Age of Catastrophes. In preparation, we will read chapter 6, "Ethnopsychoanalysis in the Era of Decolonization," which focuses on Swiss radical analysts who traveled to Africa and Papua New Guinea in the 1960s and later became heroes to the New Left as the first European critics of psychoanalytic homophobia. A public lecture will follow later that afternoon.

Light refreshments will be served.

To obtain a copy of Professor Herzog's "Ethnopsychoanalysis in the Era of Decolonization," please email Joshua Boydstun at joshua.boydstun@rochester.edu.
