Ziqi Zhang (he/him/his)

Position/What you do at U of R?Ziqi Zhang

I am a PhD candidate in the Seismology and Computational Geophysics lab working with Dr. Olugboji. My research focuses on using seismological techniques to image the Earth's structures.

Where are you from?

I'm from Dalian, a seaside city in northeastern China.

What got you interested in Earth and Environmental Sciences?

I'm curious about earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. And now as I'm diving into research in seismology, I'm interested in using signals from these events to investigate the Earth's structures.

What do you enjoy most about U of R?

I enjoy the beautiful campus in summer months. Also, while some may disagree, I generally enjoy the food at the dining halls, especially Danforth.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

I'm (kind of) into simulation games, for example Cities Skylines - I've spent more than 1,600 hours on it! I'm also interested in aviation and I had an intro flight lesson at Rochester Air Center three years ago, during which I flew a Cessna 172 from ROC to Canandaigua and back (in the pilot seat).

What is the one thing that instantly makes your day better?

Getting an email that starts with "Dear Dr. Zhang, I am pleased to accept your manuscript ..."
