Chemistry Grad Students win ACS Awards

Congratulations to chemistry students Karla R. Sanchez Lievanos (Knowles Group)Maria Camila Aguilera-Cuenca (Neidig Group), and James L. Stair (Knowles Group), and materials science student Brittney Beidelman (Knowles Group) for receiving awards from the Rochester Section of the American Chemical Society!

The Rochester Section of the American Chemical Society recognized four University of Rochester chemistry graduate students for their contributions to the Section at its Annual Recognition Dinner held November 10, 2021 at Red Fedele’s Brook House. Karla R. Sanchez Lievanos was awarded the Section’s Volunteerism Award and Brittney BeidelmanMaria Camila Aguilera-Cuenca, and James L. Stair each received Section Special Recognition Awards.

In remarks at the Recognition Dinner, Section Chair, Dr. Colin Wright, noted the importance of having students involved in the Section to provide fresh perspectives on the needs of both the current and next generation of chemists and to provide them with professional development, mentoring and networking opportunities with a broad spectrum of academic and industrial chemists. “The energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge of current cutting edge academic research of our student members is a significant asset to the Section andensures that the ACS will continue to be effective in promoting the professional development of our members and outreach programs that highlight the critical role of chemistry as the central science in enhancing our lives and driving the economic growth of the country”.
