  • The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the areas of experimental Organic and Physical Chemistry, broadly defined. Interdisciplinary areas such as (but not limited to) chemical biology, bioorganic and biophysical chemistry, and chemistry applied to quantum information are especially encouraged. Applications are at the Assistant Professor level for a position starting July 1, 2022 or later. Candidates are expected to have a PhD, establish an outstanding program of original research and be an effective teacher at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

    Position Summary:
    Undergraduate Coordinator and Course Administrator for the Chemistry Department. 
    Serves as Departmental contact for all inquiries regarding the Undergraduate Program and supports Chair of Undergraduate Studies Committee. Handles transfer credit inquiries and approval. Major/Minor advising; Answer all inquiries regarding program requirements using knowledge of academic programs and courses, pre-requisites, degree requirements, and policies.  Approve major/minor declarations. Monitor all undergraduate chemistry majors by completing and submitting academic audits.  Prepare undergraduate student awards. Coordinate various undergraduate events, including the department’s commencement ceremony. Help develop, produce, and distribute all undergraduate recruiting and curriculum materials. Serve as a liaison with the Registrar’s office and as departmental contact for all chemistry course related matters. Manage the online-working-reports each semester, course set up, changes, and scheduling rooms for classes, workshops, labs, and exams. Large course support as needed.

    College graduation or an equivalent combination of experience and training; 1 year of relevant administrative experience. Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with University systems, including Workday, UR Students, Blackboard highly desirable. Able to work independently and initiate projects, as well as work in a collegial, team-oriented and supportive manner within the Department and across departments. High standard of communication skills, both verbal and written required.

    We are seeking a dedicated student with enough time and energy to take on a challenging student assistant position for 5-15 hours per week. The position entails assisting with website maintenance; creating departmental publications (newsletter, flyers, posters); and general office assistance including, but not limited to, filing, copying, updating databases, running errands, and assisting with preparation for meetings and events.

    Student should be computer savvy, comfortable with a PC, have an eye for design, and a strong willingness to learn and innovate. The applicant should be willing to receive on-the-job training as necessary, and should enjoy mastering new technologies and computer programs. This position is for those who desire an opportunity to grow and assist in the Advancement activities of a collegiate department.
