What was it that originally sparked your interest in biology?
In primary school, taking my first biology class. It opened my eyes to the world of biology. The seemingly infinite expanse of what there is to know and understand about our living world. The insane intricacies of life that have been happening every second of every day since life began on this planet. It never ceases to fascinate me.
What do you enjoy most about working here at the U of R?
What I enjoy most about working here is the people. Everyone is so knowledgeable, friendly, and accepting. Eager to help whenever you have a problem or question.
What advice would you give to prospective students looking to study in our department?
Be inquisitive, never ever be afraid to ask questions when you don’t know or understand. You have the ability to learn, gain understanding of so much, to do so much. Believe in yourself and make it happen!
What’s the most important thing that you’ve learned working here and/or studying biology?
Working in this department specifically has taught me a lot. Being a member of a research lab for the first time has taught me again the lessons of humility, curiosity, and patience.
How do you unwind when you’re not in the lab?
When I’m not in the lab I like to relax by playing a variety of tabletop and video games with people, work on things for those games, read, fold origami, explore new places, and spend time with my partner and friends.
