Amelia Harvey

Laboratory Technician, The Rabeling Lab

You work in a laboratory.  What are you currently researching?

I am currently working on a microsatellite project looking at patterns of poly/monogyny in fungus-growing ants with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the evolution of social parasitism.

What was it that originally sparked your interest in biology?

The school I went to from K-12 encouraged students to view an interest in/understanding of ecology as an important part of our culture.

What advice would you give to prospective students looking to study in our department?

If there is a class you are interested in, but can't take because of other requirements/workload, audit it!

What’s the most important thing that you’ve learned working here and/or studying biology?

The importance of collaboration.

How do you unwind when you’re not in the lab?

I like to read and listen to music.
