Position/what you do at U of R?Tinghong Zhou

I am a PhD student in Earth and Environmental Sciences. I work with Professor John Tarduno studying Paleomagnetism.

Where are you from? 

I grew up in Hunan Province, China.

What got you interested in Earth and Environmental Sciences? 

I have been attracted to nature since I was a kid, so I studied geology in college. Then I realized geology is an essential discipline for us to understand the universe, which I would love to continue studying.

What do you enjoy most about U of R? 

I appreciate that at U of R I have the chance to work/study with great scientists and do exciting research here.

What is your favorite book?

I like the scientific fiction The Three-Body Problem written by Cixin Liu. This novel includes profound imaginations about civilizations in the extraterrestrial world and how they would get along with humans.

What is your favorite thing to do in Rochester, NY?

My favorite thing to do in Rochester is ice skating. I had never skated on ice before I came to Rochester and I enjoyed it a lot.
