Emma Wiseman

Emma Wiseman is an artist interested in puppets and objects. As a puppeteer, puppetry designer, consultant, or collaborator, she has worked for and with Dan Hurlin, Jeanette Yew, Robin Frohardt, Sachiyo Takahashi, Nick Lehane, Derek Fourdjour, Alex Da Corte, the Kennedy Center, Swoon, CO/LAB Theater Group, Geva Theatre, and David Neumann, among others. She has toured nationally and internationally with Robin Frohardt’s The Pigeoning and Nick Lehane’s Chimpanzee, and premiered the live version of Frohardt’s The Plastic Bag Store in New York City (the film/installation has since traveled globally.) Emma served as lead puppeteer for “Animated Life”, an Emmy-nominated New York Times Op-Doc series.

Emma’s original work looks at relationships between humans and our spaces and objects, especially those that are considered boring or mundane. She and playwright Emily Zemba recently adapted their office supply puppet piece, Out Of Office, into a short film, which was an official selection of the Chattanooga Film Festival. Emma is currently documenting examples of particularly depressing plants in the built environment through the instagram account @sad._.plants. You can see more of what she’s up to at emmawiseman.me
