Joshua Thorson

Josh Thorson is an Assistant Professor of Fine Art in the Photo School at RIT. He teaches 4D Design and in the MFA Photography program, among other courses. His video work has been exhibited at Rencontres Internationales (Paris/Berlin, 2012/13); the traveling Strange Attractors series (various, 2012-2013); Soloway Gallery (2010); Glass Curtain Gallery at Columbia College (2009); Callicoon Fine Arts (2009); Documentary Fortnight at MoMA (2008), and Rotterdam International Film Festival (2006). He has designed video projections for theater and music at venues such as the Fisher Center at Bard College (Summerscape 2015), The Albany Symphony (Troy, NY, 2015), Hermès New Settings Festival (Paris, 2013), Crossing the Line Festival (NYC, 2013), American Repertory Theater (Cambridge, 2010), and Signature Theater (NYC, 2008). He is collaborating with composer Nick Hallett on an original opera, and developed Act 1 at Roulette (Brooklyn) in 2015 and Act 2 at Merkin Hall (NYC) in 2016. This summer, he participated in a workshop for director Daniel Fish’s production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn. He is currently working on a multimedia art project about the global socio-political impact of the identity politics of soft drinks.
