Congratulations to Jeff Tschirhart
Congratulations to Jeff Tschirhart, who is the recipient of the 2026 Sandra M. Beach Memorial Award for outstanding service to the Department of Chemistry.

The award was presented to Jeff at the department's staff luncheon on Thursday, August 13, and honors his impact as a member of the Department of Chemistry.
Some comments from those who nominated him are:
“Since the day he started, Jeff has had a remarkably positive impact on the Department. He has been a strong and steady supporter of the faculty, providing clear guidance on financial decision-making, helping us navigate both small and large challenges in grant management, and improving how grant status is reported. These changes have made it much clearer where our resources stand and what adjustments may be needed.”
“He has done a remarkable job of reorganizing our business operations, making our grant accounting much more transparent. In addition, he has 'filled in' for staff who have been on leave or who have left the department. He appears to take on these responsibilities with ease and does a great job with the tasks at hand. He's a perfect choice for the Sandra Beach award.”
“Jeff, as a recipient of this award, seems like a no-brainer. He has picked up SO much work this year (filling in for staff who are out or who have retired). He responds to e-mails and finds solutions to problems without complaint. My job is easier since Jeff has joined the department.”
“Jeff has gone above and beyond to keep our Department running over the past year, stepping into multiple roles as we have been short-staffed. He is very responsive and helpful to faculty, has simplified many documents related to finances, and has been very helpful in terms of grant applications. Jeff is someone who one can go to with any questions about Departmental things or policies and always does the job 100%.”
“Jeff consistently supports everyone on the team with their daily tasks, showing not only deep expertise but also a proactive approach to solving problems. He’s always open to feedback and works to address it promptly, which is something I really appreciate. His initiative in suggesting process improvements has made a noticeable impact on our team’s overall efficiency. Having someone as knowledgeable, reliable, and helpful as Jeff truly makes a difference in our department.”
“Since he began working in the department, Jeff has shown remarkable patience and availability. Most email requests are acknowledged immediately, and he always pauses what’s he doing when I stop by his office. While I have been concerned about how much work he has taken on during this time of staff flux, he seems to have absorbed the extra work with grace and keeps a steady attitude.”
“Jeff has gone above and beyond for the department this year and is thus greatly deserving of this recognition! I think he deserves ALL of the recognitions we can possibly put on him!!”
Congratulations, Jeff, on receiving this award, and thank you for all you do in the Chemistry Department!
The Sandra M. Beach Memorial Award was established as a tribute to Sandra Beach, who served as the department secretary from 1991 until her tragic death in an automobile accident in 1993. She was an extremely important and well-liked staff member whose cheerful and helpful attitude made her an invaluable asset. Each year, co-workers, faculty, and students nominate a chemistry staff member whom they feel has contributed significantly to the welfare and camaraderie of the department.
