Tanenbaum Scholarship
Summer Internship Funding
In 2004, University alumnus John Tanenbaum ’85 endowed a fund to help English majors subsidize their housing, transportation, and other expenses incurred as part of a summer internship. Since 2006, the Tanenbaum Scholarship has helped make internships possible at such venues as: an academic publishing house in Pittsburgh; a TV production team in Los Angeles; the American Red Cross; and the Legal Aid Society of Rochester.
A unique aspect of the Tanenbaum Scholarship is the networking and community-building opportunities that it offers: as a condition of receiving the award, Tanenbaum Scholars will be expected to report back on their experiences to fellow students -- and, as alumni, to keep in touch with their fellow Tanenbaum awardees via a platform facilitated by the Greene Center. This network of Tanenbaum Scholars is meant to provide ongoing mentorship possiblities, professional connections, and other benefits to past and future recipients.
