Student Spotlights
Woody Omega Jr.—Senior
Why did you choose this major?
I chose Digital Media Studies because it provided me the opportunity to explore a variety of courses dedicated to creativity, media, and potential career paths. This major has also given me the space to learn about the things I enjoy and skills I want to improve on.
What’s your capstone project?
In collaboration with Hipocampo Children's Bookstore, I am part of the Dos/Two Capstone Team. Throughout our senior year we worked on creating an interactive digital storybook with educational games for children. I played a role in marketing and the production component of our project.
Why is community engagement important to you?
Community Engagement provides an opportunity to support the growth and success of those who are around you. Collaborating with community partners, volunteering, or simply getting out to support local businesses and build relationships with people in a community, this can build a stronger society and ensure a positive foundation for its future.
What are your plans after you graduate?
At this present time, I am uncertain of what I’ll do post grad. A year-long break sounds quite nice, but… that’s not for me. Post-grad is the perfect opportunity to explore my career and grad school options while also working on my own personal projects. Though, I will be taking somewhat of a break after finishing four challenging years in undergrad.
Maybe I’ll go to the beach.
What is your proudest accomplishment while at the UofR?
My proudest accomplishment while at the UofR would be my personal growth. Yeah I’ve done projects and conducted research, which I am already quite proud of, but looking back throughout my time here, I’ve learned so much about myself and others. Strength and wisdom was gained through my willingness to keep going. Even when times were rough, I’ve learned to be resilient and do the best I can in whatever I do.
What do you like to do when not in school?
Sleep.
A Rochester must?
I highly recommend attending the annual Fringe Festival in the fall! There’s so much to see and a variety of events to attend ranging from dance performances to film screenings, there’s even outdoor activities!
Feast/meal of the times? Details, please!
One of my favorite meals is Haitian Griyo (Fried Pork) with Banan Peze(Fried Plantain) and Diri JonJon (A special rice dish). This dish was a huge part of my childhood and most likely will always be my favorite meals.
An inspiring book/movie/show? We are really curious as to why!
One of my favorite shows would be “The Midnight Gospel” an animated series that shares many life lessons and experiences based on real interviews between Duncan Trussell and various people from different spiritual backgrounds.
