Major Requirements

Students interested in pursuing a BA in film and media studies can choose from one of two tracks:

Students who are double majoring, earning a dual degree, or taking a minor or cluster in a related area should review the overlap policy before selecting their courses.

Theory Track (12 Courses)

  • One of the following introductory courses:
    • FMS 131: Introduction to Media Studies
    • FMS 132: Introduction to the Art of Film
  • One course in film/media history
  • One course in international or transnational film/media
  • Three courses in film/media theory and analysis
  • One course in media production
  • Five upper-level (200+) courses in film/media studies.

  • One course in film/media history
  • One course in international or transnational film/media
  • Three courses in film/media theory and analysis
  • One upper-level course (200+) in a non-production area
  • Five courses in production-related areas
