Assistant or Associate Professor in Black Feminist Studies

The University of Rochester’s Frederick Douglass Institute and Department of Black Studies invites applications for an assistant or associate professor in Black feminist studies, to begin July 1, 2023. Tenure upon appointment for qualified senior candidates may be granted, contingent on favorable review of the candidate’s dossier by the department, the dean, and the provost.

Applicants should have a strong research portfolio which expands Black Feminist Theory and demonstrates a record of excellence in research and teaching about critical issues of racialized gender and sexuality in the United States and/or the African diaspora. We invite applications from scholars who are committed to the interdisciplinary study of Blackness and are making critical, cutting-edge interventions in the field. While we welcome all areas of specialization, we are especially interested in scholars trained in Black studies, women, gender, and sexuality studies, ethnic studies, and other interdisciplinary fields.

This search is part of a School of Arts & Sciences cluster hiring initiative focused on scholars who do research in Black studies and scholars whose research addresses critical issues pertaining to the African diaspora. The University of Rochester is committed to identifying scholars doing path-breaking research on Blackness and who will enhance the university’s direction in this area. Research addressing critical issues pertaining to the African diasporais supported in part by the Frederick Douglass Institute and Department of Black Studies.
