The Chemistry-Biology Interface (CBI) Training Program

Science at the chemistry-biology interface applies chemical concepts and approaches to gain a better understanding of biological phenomena and human disease.

At the University of Rochester, graduate students in the chemical and biological sciences have the opportunity to participate in the NIH-funded Chemistry-Biology Interface (CBI) Training Program. Thirty faculty members from six departments and programs in Arts, Sciences and Engineering and in the School of Medicine and Dentistry serve as mentors to students participating in the CBI training program.

The overall goal of the program is to prepare predoctoral graduate students for productive and fulfilling careers in science. Activities in this program will help trainees develop skills needed in a range of careers in science, which includes scientific writing, giving effective presentations, and networking. Highlights of the training program include:

Students are well-grounded in a core discipline and sufficiently well-trained in complementary fields to allow them to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Participation in the CBI Program

The CBI Training Program is open to graduate students in the participating departments and programs. Those conducting research in CBI laboratories are eligible for Traineeships funded by a Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Students interested in the CBI Training Program should apply to one of the following graduate programs:
