Participate in our Studies

We have established a list of names of students who may be willing to take part in research conducted by members of our department. All participation in our experiments is for pay and is entirely voluntary. If you are interested in being included in the list, researchers in the department will contact you for individual experiments, usually via email, and you can decide whether you are interested in being in any particular experiment at that time or simply decline to answer.

If you indicate that you are willing to have your name placed in our list, we will provide your name, email address, and phone number, as well as information that you indicate below, to BCS researchers who are doing studies on topics such as language processing, visual perception, or learning, and they will contact you when they need participants. We think our experiments are interesting and sometimes fun, and we pay you a minimum of $7.50 per hour to take part. (Course credit for participating in experiments is not available.)

We will keep your information in this list for one year (or until you ask us to remove it at any time). There are no risks to participating in this project, other than a remote possibility of breach of confidentiality. We will not share information about you with anyone outside BCS for any reason.

If you have questions about your contact information being in this participant list, please call Jessica Cantlon at (585) 275-1844. For any questions, comments or concerns about your rights related to this project, call the Research Subjects Review Board at (585) 276-0005. You may also call this number if you cannot reach the department or wish to speak with someone else.

You are free to participate in our experiments or not. Whatever you decide, it won't affect your status as a student at the university or in your BCS courses. If you agree to have your contact information included now, you can change your mind later and ask to have this information removed.
