University of Rochester

About

The scientific mission of the Center is to develop an efficient and practical approach for a multi-step conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol or other fuels, using sunlight as the energy source with bacterial treatment of wastewater to regenerate the photosensitizer. A diverse 20-member team of researchers from 10 institutions around the U.S. are working on the problem (eight are from Rochester, including the Program Director, Bill Jones). The team comprises leading researchers in nanoparticle synthesis and photophysics, homogeneous catalysis, electrogenic bacterial processes, and catalyst modeling.
