Ionic Collisions and Clusters

The Rochester Reaction Dynamics Group

Group members

Linsen Pei

Linsen Pei received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China, focusing on spectroscopic and reaction kinetics studies of metal-containing complexes, and radicals containing halogens and carbon atoms. He first came to the United States in 2004 as a postdoctoral fellow at Oregon State University, where he worked in the group of Professor Wei Kong studying biological molecules in superfluid helium droplets. Following a year in Professor Terry Miller's group, where he worked on cavity ringdown spectroscopy of peroxides, he joined the group of Professor Chunlei Guo at the Institute of Optics at Rochester, conducting multiphoton ionization studies of triatomic molecules in strong laser fields.

Brian Barker

Brian Barker is a 2013 REU participant. A member of the class of 2014, he will graduate with degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics. When Brian is not doing science, he is a long distance runner on the University's Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Brian is an avid fan of science fiction, and his favorites include The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, the Dune series, and the Ender series. His favorite cartoon character is Gir from "Invader Zim", and his current favorite show is "Adventure Time."

Stefano Falcinelli

Dr. Stefano Falcinelli is a visiting professor from the University of Perugia. His visit to the group maintains a 40 year collaboration and friendship with the members of the molecular beam group at Perugia. Stefano has been a member of that group for over 20 years, and has interests in collisional ionization of metastable rare gas atoms with molecules. At Rochester, he is lending his expertise to our efforts in imaging ion-radical reactions.

Eduardo Carrascosa

Eduardo Carrascosa is a visiting graduate student from the Institute for Ion Physics at the University of Innsbruck in Austria for the Summer of 2014. Eduardo received undergraduate degrees in chemistry and philosophy from the University of Madrid. At Innsbruck, Eduardo is a graduate fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, studying ion-molecule interactions with velocity map imaging in the laboratory of Prof. Roland Wester.

Nan Yang

Nan Yang is a 2014 REU participant and a University of Rochester Chemistry major doing his senior thesis research in our laboratory. Nan’s work has focused on making important improvements on our velocity mapping ion optics system, and in assisting with our recent experimental work on H3+ with methyl radical and D3+ with methane. Nan will begin graduate studies at Yale University in the Fall of 2015.

“Ping

Ping He is a 2015 REU participant and a University of Rochester Chemistry major doing her senior thesis research in our laboratory. Ping comes from Dalian, China. She will graduate with degrees in chemistry and mathematics. She loves quantum. She loves travelling. At school, she likes to work out, play the violin and play chess. She watches “Game of Thrones” and Korean dramas. Currently she is working on Gaussian calculations.
