This is currently my main research focus and why I am living/working in Mendoza. The goal of this project is to obtain the elevation history of the highest part of the Andes, and compare it to the known shortening histories of the region. I am collecting paleosol carbonate samples from Miocene to Pliocene sedimentary basins over an area that spans a major transition in upper crustal shortening and the modern geometry fo the subducting Nazca Plate. Another major component of the project is the collection of a seasonal set of river water samples from 6 catchments, 3 on the chilean side and 3 on the Argentine side of the Cordillera. More to come.
