A milestone in Polish cinema, often described as “the Polish Citizen Kane,” Wajda’s Man of Marble tells the story of a determined filmmaker, Agnieszka, who sets out to make a documentary about an over-achieving worker in the 1950s, Mateusz Birkut.

Director: Andrzej Wajda
Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award nominee, Man of Iron takes up the story of Wajda’s previous 1976 movie, Man of Marble. The film depicts the rise of the Solidarity workers’ union movement and complicated human fates in the dawn of a new political era. It is an homage, as well as testimony, to the price paid by the determined laborers who opposed the authorities.
