Course: Intensive Elementary Chinese I (4 credit course)

Description: This online course is designed for students with little or no background in Chinese. It offers intensive training in sounds, basic sentence structures, and the writing system of Mandarin Chinese. Emphasis is on developing listening and speaking skills as well as building vocabulary. Chinese culture is also introduced through the course. This is one of the core courses in the Chinese program and can count toward completion of a cluster, minor, or China-focused major. After successfully completing this summer intensive course, students will have a basic foundation for further Chinese study and can continue on to Intensive Elementary Chinese II (CHIN 118) or Elementary Chinese II (CHIN 102).

Course: Screening French Shorts: Intensive Intermediate (4 credit course)

Description: This four-week course is designed for students who wish to expand and sharpen their listening, speaking, and writing skills in French at the intermediate level. Students will work on cultural themes, as well as major grammatical points and idioms through intensive classwork based on a selection of French short films. This summer course is recommended for students who have prior knowledge of French at post-elementary or intermediate levels and have completed FREN 102 or FREN 153. Upon completion of this course, students will take the Placement in their language study with Advanced French.

Description: Do you want to watch Dark without subtitles? Read Kafka without translation? Say “Ich liebe dich” or “Ich hätte gerne eine Brezel” during a post-covid study abroad or an internship in a German speaking country? GMRN 111 is an intensive summer class that will teach you elementary German in only six weeks. You will learn everything to prepare you for intermediate German and to build a strong foundation for your German language skills. We will not only learn pronunciation and grammar, we will also chat about German customs and culture, and will work on a variety of interactive projects. Much better than duolingo, that’s a promise

Korean Intensive Summer courses flyer

Course: Intensive Elementary Korean I (4 credit course)

Description: This course is offered as a fully online, synchronous course. This course is designed for students who have no background or a limited background in Korean. It introduces students to the sounds, basic sentence structures, and the writing system of the Korean language. Emphasis will be on developing listening and speaking skills, as well as building vocabulary. The course will also focus on cultural aspects of the language as a way of enhancing students' understanding. Students are allowed to enroll in KORE 112 or KORE 102 upon completion.

Course: Intensive Elementary Korean II (4 credit course)

When: July 6-July 30, MTWR 9:00 am - 12:10 pm

Description:This course is offered as a fully online, synchronous course. This course is the continuation of KORE 111 (and KORE 101). This course will offer students the opportunity to expand their vocabulary and to improve further conversational and grammatical skills beyond those learned in KORE 111 (or KORE 101). Focus will be on developing listening and speaking skills for everyday personal
communication and developing sociocultural knowledge for interactional competence in Korean. Students are allowed to enroll KORE 151 upon completion.
