Henry Kautz to Discuss Artificial Intelligence on Radio Program

Henry Kautz, the Robin and Tim Wentworth Director of the Goergen Institute for Data Science and a professor of computer science, is scheduled be a guest on WXXI’s Connections with Evan Dawson at noon today. He will be speaking about the promises and dangers of artificial intelligence and its impact on privacy, national security, jobs, and social cohesion. Listen online or at 1370AM.

Data Science Student Co-founds KBH Consultancy

November 27, 2017

Three University students, including two from the Hajim School, decided to address the low percentage of African high school graduates who go on to universities, and the high dropout rates among those who do. Realizing the obstacles posed by poverty and lack of quality institutions of higher learning throughout the African continent, William Kaseu ’18, a financial economics major; Frederico Hama ’20 of mechanical engineering; and Dewey Bazirake’20 of data science and international business, co-founded KBH Consultancy to help international students understand the steps required to attend a university in the United States.  For more, see their website.

Eshan Hoque, Ph.D. are now reaching for new tools, such as algorithms, machine learning, computer simulations, and mobile technologies, to both improve care and identify new therapies.

Asaro Biggar Family Fellows in Data Science

Amanda Larracuente, assistant professor of biology, was appointed the Stephen Biggar ’92 and Elizabeth Asaro ’92 Fellow in Data Science, and Ehsan Hoque, assistant professor of computer science, was named the Asaro Biggar Family Fellow in Data Science. The fellowships carry a term of three years and allow the University to honor and encourage outstanding faculty early in their careers.

Data Science Consortium Announced for Rochester

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced $22.5 million in state support for the creation of the Rochester Data Science Consortium on the University of Rochester campus. The consortium will create up to 184 new jobs and is expected to leverage more than $285 million in federal research funds and private investment.

University of Rochester to Lead Data Science Consortium

With Harris Corporation as the consortium’s first partner, the University-led project will create up to 184 new direct jobs and is expected to leverage more than $285 million in federal research funds and private investment. The project also includes Wegmans Hall, the new 60,000-square-foot River Campus building that will house the new consortium, which is part the Goergen Institute for Data Science.
