The Kennedy Research Group is housed on the fourth floor of Hutchison Hall in modules 452, 449, and 447. Student desks are in HH449; Rose’s office is HH459. Check out the photos below for some highlights of our space and equipment.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0\"\"\u00a0\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Individual Hoods:\u00a0<\/strong>Graduate students and postdocs are each assigned bench space and an individual fume hood equipped with a Schlenk line.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Gloveboxes:<\/strong> We have two MBraun full-double UniLabPro Gloveboxes named Boombox<\/em> and Charlotte’s Box<\/em> (in honor of a resident spider). Each glovebox is equipped with a \u201330\u00b0C freezer, a cold well, and multiple vacuum ports connected to a Welch 1400 vacuum pump. We use these gloveboxes for reaction set-up and organometallic manipulations in an inert atmosphere (nitrogen).<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

UHV Line:\u00a0<\/strong>We use a custom-built ultra-high-vacuum line equipped with a diffusion pump for quantitative gas transfers, vacuum manipulations, and drying reagents.<\/p>\n

\"UHV<\/p>\n

HPLC:\u00a0<\/strong>We have a Shimadzu\u00a0Prominence-i LC-2030 Plus HPLC equipped with normal- and reverse-phase columns for rapid analysis of reaction mixtures. We also have a suite of chiral stationary phase columns suitable for determination of enantiomer ratios.<\/span><\/p>\n

GC:\u00a0<\/strong>We have a Shimadzu\u00a0GC-2030 equipped with a flame-ionization detector and an auto sampler. We use achiral- and chiral-stationary phase columns for rapid analysis of reaction mixtures and determination of enantiomer ratios.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Solvent Purification System:<\/strong> We have an MBraun SPS-5 solvent-purification system equipped with columns for diethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran (THF), pentane, toluene, and N<\/em>,N<\/em>-dimethylformamide (DMF).<\/p>\n

Balances:\u00a0<\/strong>We have several Shimadzu\u00a0ATX-series analytical balances scattered throughout the lab and in the glovebox. We use these for weighing out reagents and products.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Rotary Evaporators:\u00a0<\/strong>We have two IKA RV-3 rotary evaporators equipped with Fisher Scientific Maxima Dry diaphragm pumps that we use to remove solvent from our samples.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Kessil Lamps:\u00a0<\/strong>We have 440 nm and 456 nm Kessil lamps on a PR160 rig for visible-light photochemistry.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Ovens:\u00a0<\/strong>We have two Heratherm Ovens and an Isotemp Vacuum Oven used for drying glassware and supplies.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Chemical Refrigerator\/Freezer:\u00a0<\/strong>We have a chemical-rated combination refrigerator\/freezer that we use to store sensitive reagents and samples at 10 \u00b0C or \u201320 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n
