Concert Debut of Prof. Zhiyao Duan's Chinese / English Lyric Tracking System

May 13, 2017
07:30 PM - 08:30 AM
Penfield High School Auditorium

34th Annual Concert of the Chinese Choral Society of Rochester

Directed by Dr. Ming-Lun Lee, this concert will perform a collection of Chinese and English art and folk songs under the theme of “Memories”, including “Memory” from the musical Cats. We will also have a US premiere of the suite A Journey Named Life for Chorus, Flute, and Piano, composed by the Eastman graduate Ching-Mei Lin.

The Eastman flutist Martha Chan, who won the first prize at the 2015 American Fine Arts International Concerto Competition and has been the principal flute of the Eastman Philharmonia and several other orchestras, will perform the flute solo for this suite. She will also perform Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino for Flute and Piano with our Eastman pianist Yi-Yang Chen, who recently won the 2017 Virginia Waring International Piano Competition.

The concert also features the debut of an automatic lyrics display system that can follow the choral performance and display song lyrics in both Chinese and English on the stage screen to the audience in real time. This system was developed in the Audio Information Research (AIR) lab at the University of Rochester, directed by Dr. Zhiyao Duan, a member of the CCSR.
