Certificate Program in Biotechnology

Certificate Requirements

I. Biology Course Requirements (4 Courses)

  • BIOL 110L: Principles of Biology I with Lab or BIOL 112 Perspectives of Biology I with Lab
  • BIOL 111L: Principles of Biology II with Lab or BIOL 113 Perspectives of Biology II with Lab
  • BIOL 198: Principles of Genetics
  • BIOL 250L: Introduction to Biochemistry with lab

II. Computer Technology Course Requirements (1 Course)

Select from the following:

  • BIOL 208:  Programming for Biology Majors
  • CSC 161: The Art of Programming
  • ECE 114: Introduction to Computers and Programming
  • Approved equivalent

III. Microbiology Course Requirements (1 Course)

  • MBI 220: Introduction to Microbiology

IV. Laboratory Requirements (2 Courses)

Select one (1) from group 'A':

  • MBI 221W: Microbiology Laboratory (co-requisite MBI 220)
  • BIOL 268: Laboratory in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology

Select one (1) from group 'B':

    • BCH 308: Biochemistry Laboratory (prerequisite BIOL/BCH 250)
    • MBI 221W: Microbiology Laboratory (co-requisite MBI 220)
    • BIOL 268: Laboratory in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology
    • BIOL 228A&B IGEM I&II (International Genetically Engineered Machines Competition Course Series)
