My research focuses on cancer resistance and longevity using subterranean rodents. One of my projects focuses on the mechanisms of cancer resistance of a long-lived rodent, the blind mole rat (BMR). I’m looking at the involvement of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) in regulating retrotransposons in BMR cells, which contribute to interferon-mediated concerted cell death and thus cancer resistance of BMR.

Another project focuses on gamma-irradiation-induced cellular senescence of another long-lived species, the naked mole rat (NMR). I’m using RNA-seq to highlight differentiated signalling pathways between NMR and mouse in response to gamma-irradiation, as a possible mechanism of longevity and cancer-resistance of NMR.
